The man who sets you free
Dear reader,
I know you are well. I am reading the book of
John. Today, I was just going through chapters 8 to 9. Now, I have read John
many times but it never just sticks. This time, I am reading out loud while
meditating over it as I go so that I am fully present. When I feel a verse speaking
ever so more to me, I jot it down and write something on it.
This evening, it was like
this:
John 8: 12. ‘Jesus spoke
to the Pharisees again. “I am the light of the world…whoever follows me will
have the light of life and will never walk in darkness”’ I think this is a call
for us to pray to God our Father about our desire to follow Jesus. When we walk
with and follow Jesus, he will lighten our life and our paths. He will bring
light to darkness within us. He will expose the hidden so that we know and are
no longer in them but have light of life.
Okay, so this is
unrelated but listen. As I was just walking home from town earlier today, there
was a conversation. I was carrying some groceries I had just bought and I was
walking by the road hoping to meet a motorcycle so I can get on it and get home.
And mind you, there was an option for me to drop were there was the actual
stage but I was like I don’t want to spend extra. But God says, I see you, you
have the means but why are you just out there folding your hands as though he
is a God who doesn’t see or give, let alone wants you to be happy and
comfortable.
If you know me, which you
don’t, you will see my face dead serious most of the time, it’s because I am
always somewhere, lost in thought debating about something and judging myself
and criticizing my actions over what should and shouldn’t be. Do you really believe
God? Because it seems to God that I feel I cannot trust him to replenish me. Crazy
right. That I can believe God for a house for example but find it hard to
believe him for something like joy and happiness that comes with being human
and so imperfect but trusting in his perfection. The yearning for perfection
has killed a great many joys in my life. But you know what I learnt from this, trust
God and lay it all on him. You don’t even know why you be like that until one
day, you are walking or just cleaning a plate and it hits you, he has cleansed
you and taken it all. You are free, joyous and ever so happy!
John 8:28-29 So he said
to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, you will know that I do nothing on
my own authority, but I say only what the Father has instructed me to say. He
who sent me is with me, he has not left me alone because I always do what
pleases him.”
John 8:31-32 So Jesus
said to those who believed in him, “If you obey my teaching, you are really my
disciples; you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”
John 8:36 if the Son sets
you free, then you will be really free!
In the end, truth lies
and is found in obedience. If we obey the word of God, he will reveal to us
what is true.
say CHEESE!!!!
